New Delhi: A Bhagalpur court has sentenced 13 out of the 14 people convicted for their role in the 1989 Bhagalpur riots to life imprisonment. The remaining person who was convicted is still absconding.
The court on June 18 had found them guilty of killing 116 people belonging to the minority community during the riots.
All these deaths had taken place at Logain village, on the outskirts of Bhagalpur.
Bhagalpur witnessed one of the worst communal riots in Independent India, with more than 1000 people losing their lives.
