BHEL to expedite power equipment supplies to Genco

The Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited will supply and erect all the required equipment, material, accessories, etc ahead of schedule to APGenco to overcome all the bottlenecks in timely completion of its thermal power projects in the state.

BHEL is the major supplier of key equipment such as boilers, turbines and generators. When Genco officials sought prompt supply of equipment, BHEL chairman and managing director BP Rao assured state government’s principal secretary (energy) M Sahoo on Thursday that BHEL would supply the equipment on time.

APGenco’s request to BHEL came amidst a severe power shortage due to drastic short supply of natural gas. Genco is trying it best to complete construction of thermal plants to to meet the abnormal power demand. Genco’s joint managing director D Prabhakar Rao briefed the BHEL CMD about the need for timely supply and erection of major equipment for the thermal projects under construction.

Rao requested the BHEL CMD to depute a special officer to continuously monitor the supply of above equipment so as to co-ordinate with APGenco and avoid any delays. APGenco is the largest power generating company with an installed capacity of 8,924.9 MW _ 5,092.5 MW thermal, 3,829.36 MW hydel, 2 MW wind and 1 MW solar _ of power.

It is making all-out efforts to complete construction of KTPP, Krishnapatnam and RTPP thermal power projects with a total capacity of 2,800 MW.

The 600 MW KTPP is scheduled to be commissioned in December next year, KTPP stage-1 two units of 800 MW each (one unit in June next and the other in December next year) and the 600 MW RTPP in August 2014.
