New Delhi: The Bitti Mahanti case is once again under the spotlight after CNN-IBN learnt that after his father top cop B B Mahanti surrendered, his son is likely to follow suit.
Bitti Mahanti jumped parole in December 2006, after he was convicted of raping a German tourist in Alwar.
CNN-IBN learnt that B B Mahanti is expecting his son to get bail from a Rajasthan court after surrendering, the way he did.
The Rajasthan police is considering announcing a big cash reward for Bitti's whereabouts.
They also plan to interrogate senior Mahanti, and if he does not cooperate this time, he might invite fresh trouble.
The Orissa government, meanwhile, has decided not to revoke the suspension of B B Mahanti.
A copy of the order and draft of charges was on Monday handed over to the former Director-General of Police (Home Guards) who has been asked by Special Secretary (Home) T K Mishra to file his reply within 30 days.
"Mahanti's suspension order is not being withdrawn," Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik told reporters adding that steps would be taken as per the legal procedure, reports PTI.
