New Delhi: The BJP CD issue seems to be simmering with Election Commission directing the party to strongly condemn the controversial twin disk pack. A day after the directive was issued, BJP president Rajnath Singh said his party would make its stand known.
"The party discussed the directive issued by the EC on the CD yesterday. Please wait for two to three days, our stand will be known," Singh was quoted as saying.
The EC had on Tuesday let the party off easily by reserving its right to decide on the demand to derecognise the BJP over the controversial CD that contained anti-Muslim and inflammatory matter.
The poll panel also said the BJP could not absolve itself of the responsibility of the actions of its functionaries
The BJP has claimed that the CD, which was released by party leader Lalji Tandon on April 4 in Lucknow, was not part of its official campaign material and was prepared by a junior functionary. The Commission refused to buy this, saying it cannot absolve itself of the responsibility of its functionaries.
The Commission, in a 21-page order, said the statements of BJP leaders LK Advani, Kalyan Singh and Tandon’s had “created a doubt, a genuine doubt, in the minds of the general public whether BJP has disowned the CD and condemned its contents or stand by its comments".
