The unfortunate victim of gangrape whose nude body was recovered from Mohanlaganj area of Lucknow after the gruesome rape and murder has been cremated on Saturday.
The incident took place in Lucknow and Uttar Pradesh Police is working on some leads obtained during investigations into the gruesome rape and murder.
"We have got some leads and some people are also being questioned," Additional Director General (ADG) of Police Sutapa Sanyal, who has been asked by the state government to monitor investigations into the case, told reporters.
Sanyal, who visited the spot from where the body was recovered, said that the identity of the victim has been established and she was a local.
Refusing to divulge details of the investigation into the case, which she referred to as a "blind case", the ADG said it appears that more than one person was involved in the crime.
"The case has been registered under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) and after the post-mortem report, section 376 (rape) has also been added," she said, adding that there are 12 injuries on the body of the victim including lacerated wounds.
She said the time of her death has been mentioned as nearly one day before the time of post-mortem.
The report of the post-mortem examination, conducted by a team of six doctors including a forensic science specialist, mentions shock due to ante-mortem multiple hemorrhage from different injuries as the cause of death.
The body of the victim has 12 injury marks, including in the private parts.
Lucknow Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pravin Kumar has already suspended Inspector Kamruddin and an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Mohanlalganj police station on charges of dereliction of duty.
The incident came to light when the nude body of the woman was spotted near a primary school in Balsingh Khera village of Mohanlalganj tehsil here by a watchman. He informed the police around 6.30 am.
The area where the body was recovered is in the vicinity of Jabrauli village where tight security arrangements had been made in view of former United State President Bill Clinton's visit on Friday.
