New Delhi: Evening shoppers at a mall in Noida were sent into a tizzy when police, acting on a bomb call, evacuated the premises and launched an intensive search.
The caller, who identified himself as Iqbal Siddiqui, informed Delhi police at around 1726 hrs (IST) that three bombs were planted at various locations in the Centrestage Mall in Noida’s Sector 18.
He said the bombs would explode by 1800 hrs (IST).
PTI reports Superintendent of Police Paresh Pandey along with about 250 personnel rushed to the spot and launched an intensive search operation.
Fire brigade personnel was also rushed to the spot and five cinema halls - where movies were on - and three shops were immediately evacuated. The search operation was also conducted in the underground parking lot.
However, after an hour, the call was declared a hoax.
Meanwhile, a fire was reported to have broken out in Geoffrey's restaurant-cum-bar on the second floor of the mall. Another fire was also reported at ‘Punjabi By Nature’, another restaurant located close to the mall.
The cause of the fires was not known.
