Udaipur: The 13th Bond movie Octopussy ? with a slice of Udaipur in it ? has become a daily sundown ritual at the lakeside hangouts in the City of Lakes.
Released in 1983, Octopussy gave Udaipur its fifteen minutes of fame in the West. In the movie, James Bond plays a hot tourist guide to hordes of tourists in Udaipur.
Shot in the City of Lakes and released over 20 years back, the timeless magic of 007 lives on by these lakes. After sunset, it?s time for packed shows of the Bond blockbuster at the lakeside restaurants of Udaipur.
The action thriller starring Roger Moore, Maud Adams, Kabir Bedi and Vijay Amritraj gives a celluloid tour of the city to the tourists.
Natalie, a tourist from Scotland "I?m in Udaipur because it?s a very special place after seeing it in the James Bond movie Octopussy.
"It?s fantastic to be here and have a meal at the place where it was filmed. Udaipur is a very beautiful place and its very special in my heart to have come here," she adds.
For tourists like Geome, its their second, third even the fourth time watch. He says, "I have seen this movie in France, but I didn?t know in which city it was shot. Now that I am in Udaipur, i feel it?s a very beautiful city and I?ve seen the palace also."
With the movie finding it's place both on the billboards and the menu cards, things couldn't get better for the restaurant owners.
Restaurant owner Mahendra Singh Kachhawa, who says the movie great business and they have discovered this years back adds, "Every tourist who comes to Udaipur wants to see this movie after they see the city, its complimentary for the tourist from us to show the movie and while they see the movie they can enjoy dinner here."
