New Delhi: A school student in the capital had a miraculous escape after an iron rod pierced through his neck. 13 year old Shiv Dutt was rushed to the hospital after an iron rod pierced his neck early Monday morning.
Though his condition is stable, doctors say the injury may have caused damage to his facial nerve.
“He is in ICU and stable. But a nerve on the side of his face has got damaged. This may or may not be a permanent problem,” says CMO, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Dr. Uday.
Shivdutt was playing with friends in school, when he fell on one of the rods projecting out of the school's roof. Police had to bring in metal cutters to free him.
The school authorities have refused to accept the blame saying it is merely a case of an accident.
“He was playing on the roof top, and slipped down, this is clearly a case of the accident,” says Principal, Thomson Public School, Kamlesh Dutt.
But the police have registered a case of negligence against the school authorities. Doctors say Shiv Dutt will have to remain in hospital for a while.
