MYSORE: There is a myth about Chamrajanagar - that a visiting CM would lose power. But this has been disproved many-a-times, as a few CMs who avoided visits to the jinxed town could not complete their term. The recent addition to this club of politicos is Yeddyurappa. This ‘jinx’ attached to Chamrajnagar has only added to its saga of underdevelopment. People curse the leaders for the fate of the town situated on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border.Though few CMs in the past had visited Chamrajnagar in undivided Mysore district, fear gripped the netas as Veerendra Patil lost his post after laying the foundation stone for the Cauvery drinking water project in Chamrajnagar. Late CM SR Bommai lost his post following dismissal of the government by the then Governor. These examples reinforced the ‘jinx’ factor. Ramakrishna Hegde, HD Deve Gowda and SM Krishna gave the town a miss. HD Kumaraswamy visited Chamrajnagar when he was the chief minister. But, his government collapsed as he refused to transfer power to the BJP.
