New Delhi: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday submitted its report to the home ministry on the bus, which came under attack on Monday evening, explaining that the bus had gone astray from the security convoy after having a puncture.

Sources told CNN-News18 that judging by the sequence of events, the bus was tracked down by terrorists after it stopped to get the tyre repaired. When the bus passed through the spot where terrorists had already taken their position, they opened fire on the bus. The assault lasted forty seconds.

Sheikh Salim Gafoor, the driver of the bus from Gujarat, also corroborated the sequence of events mentioned by the Mehbooba Mufti government in its report. "Our bus had a tyre puncture and had to wait to get it repaired," Gafoor said, adding that the bus had the necessary registration.

The driver, who waded through the attack in which "50 to 60 rounds were fired", also said that there could have been 3-4 terrorists, who fired upon us from the front and the right side.

Mehbooba Mufti, in her statement after the unfortunate incident, had said that the bus was not registered and was not moving with the security convoy. Gafoor, however, said the registration was done. "We wouldn't have got the permission to visit the temple, otherwise."

At least seven Amarnath pilgrims were killed, and 19 others sustained injuries after a bus was attacked by terrorists on Monday evening. Two pilgrims had lost their lives on the spot, a senior CRPF official had told News18.
