Mumbai: It was another unsuccessful day for the Brihanmumbai Municipal corporation as its officials left the Campa Cola compound after residents once again refused to let them in on Saturday. BMC officials say they will return on Sunday.
There was high drama at the compound again on Saturday with BMC officials urging the residents to honour the Supreme Court's order and let them in. The officials also assured the residents that they will only disconnect the utilities' supplies and will not use force.
But the residents stood their ground, not letting the BMC officials in.
The BMC has also registered a case against the Campa Cola residents at the Worli police station for unlawful assembly, wrongful restraint and obstructing a public servant from performing his duty. This came after the deadline to vacate 102 illegal flats in the Campa Cola society ended on Friday. BMC officials were barred by the residents from carrying out the eviction orders.
A 'havan' was also performed within the compound seeking divine intervention to save the illegal flats from demolition where occupants have been living for close to three decades.
The BMC will start demolishing structures in the coming days. Two JCB machines have been positioned outside the gate. The BMC will also be video recording the entire eviction process to provide proof to the Supreme Court.
