New Delhi: The Centre has revoked the prohibition imposed on the transmission/re-transmission of Janmat TV on all platforms with effect from October 12 midnight.
The channel had been banned for one month with effect from September 20 for telecasting a sting operation on Delhi school teacher Uma Khurana after the story was found to be defamatory, deliberate and false containing suggestive innuendos and half-truths.
The I&B Ministry order also pointed out that the broadcast had incited violence and contained content against the maintenance of law and order. The sting maligned and slandered an individual in person and denigrated children, it said.
On Friday, the ministry however decided to withdraw the ban after the TV channel submitted that there was no deliberate attempt by it to defame anybody by telecasting the said sting operation and that it had exercised all due diligence and care as per prevailing industry practice.
In its appeal, the TV channel also submitted that it emerged only later that the reporter had misled them and unfortunately the telecast took a different shape.
The channel requested the ministry to reconsider the prohibition of transmission of the channel as it has put a question mark on the commercial viability of their channel, a government release said.
The channel also assured that they are committed to effectively using journalism in the best interests of the nation and society by following the highest standards of journalism and that they would be observing and minutely complying with all the relevant provisions of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 and the requisite license conditions.
