New Delhi: The Haryana government has asked the Income Tax department and the Enforcement Directorate to assist the CBI in probing former Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala's assets.
The state will ask the Centre to involve more agencies in investigating cases against former Chautala and his family.
"We will soon approach the Prime Minister and the Home Minister and request them to involve the Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax department to investigate Foreign Exchange Management Act or Foreign Exchange Regulation Act violations if any by Chautala," said state Transport Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala.
"The assets found during the raids conducted by CBI are just the tip of an iceberg. Investigating agencies should also probe their money lying out of country," he said.
Chautala is currently recuperating from a knee surgery in Seattle and has said the raids were a witch hunt by his political rivals.
Denying the charges that the raids were "politically motivated," Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said "there was no political vendetta, the law is taking its own course"
"Since we wanted the investigations to be impartial, we handed over the case to CBI," he said.
Luxury car seized
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on Saturday seized Chautala’s imported luxury car on charges of tax evasion.
DRI sleuths seized a Toyota Prado belonging to the former chief minister from his Rajya Sabha MP son Abhay Chautala's official 18, Janpath residence.
DRI officials said Chautala had imported the car worth Rs 25 lakh but had not paid import duty.
The CBI had raided 24 premises belonging to the former Chief Minister and his family members on Thursday and registered a case against them for allegedly possessing disproportionate assets worth over Rs 1,400 crore.
