Cheating cases against Naidu

HYDERABAD: A local court on Friday directed the Cyberabad police to register a cheating case against Telugu Desam president Nara Chandrababu Naidu for going back on his support for separate Telangana.The direction was given by the 11th metropolitan magistrate based on a petition filed by S Janardhan Goud and Krishna, two advocates from Chaitanyapuri.In the petition it was mentioned that Chandrababu Naidu had extended his support for separate Telangana by including the issue in the party's manifesto before the elections. “Chandrababu Naidu included the issue in the manifesto and also joined hands with the TRS before the elections. Soon after the December 9, 2009 announcement by the Centre on separate Telangana, Chandrababu Naidu orchestrated the resignations of his party MLAs and backtracked from supporting the Telangana demand. This led to the suicide of more than 800 youngsters,” PN Arun Kumar, the counsel for the petitioners, told Express. Arun Kumar said the decision of Chandrababu Naidu to change his stance on Telangana also triggered regional differences.The court directed the Chaitanyapuri police to register cases under Sections 420 (cheating) and 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) of IPC against Naidu. “We have received the orders and are in the process of registering a case,'' Chaitanyapuri police inspector P Praveen Kumar said. Arun Kumar had earlier filed a petition in the Supreme Court against AICC chief Sonia Gandhi on the same grounds.
