Mumbai: In a gruesome incident that has come to light on Sunday October 12, a badly severed body was found in two suitcases in the Tardeo area of the city.
The body has been identified to be that of a 30-year -old man.
It was hacked and stuffed into the bags and the suitcases bound for foreign travel were found abandoned near the prestigious Willingdon club.
The police are now trying to ascertain the victim's identity. Prima facie, the police say that it seems like a crime of passion. The victim seemed to have also undergone torture as marks on his body indicate.
On Sunday evening, passersby alerted the police of the bags lying by the roadside and about the fouls smell emanating from them.
"We were informed of an unidentified bag at 1700 hrs IST to 2000 hrs IST, so when we reached the spot we called the bomb squad. The Bomb Squad examined the bags which were stinking and then the body was discovered," says Sub Inspector Mohan Waghmare.
The police checked the contents of the bags and found that a body cut into six parts was stuffed inside them.
Dog squads and fingerprint experts have been called in.
