United Nations: Former US President Bill Clinton believes that earthquake victims in Pakistan will get more aid if they work together with Indians.
India and Pakistan reached an agreement last weekend to open the Line of Control in Kashmir on November 7 to allow Pakistani quake victims to seek help at Indian aid camps.
"I think there was financial and emotional donor exhaustion after the Tsunami and Katrina, both of which elicited unprecedented generosity from ordinary people all around the world as well as governments," Clinton said in a recent interview.
"If India and Pakistan cooperation continues, and if people see both countries are working together crossing the LoC, the donor fatigue will wear down," Clinton added.
He said many people don't realise that an estimated 33 lakh people were left homeless in the quake, more than the half million in the Tsunami.
But the Tsunami caused far more damage in monetary terms, and more people died 131,000 compared to the latest quake toll of about 78,000 people in Pakistan and more than 1,300 people in India.
