BANGALORE: With the inauguration of the Jasma Devi Convention Hall at Queen’s Road by CM D V Sadananda Gowda here on Sunday, the Bhovi community got a facelift. The Bhovi community, a minority in population, view it as a step towards the community’s development.  Speaking at length on the occasion, Home and Transport Minister R Ashok stressed that education was the sole driver for community development. “Community and society can develop only with the help of educated individuals,” he said, adding that political participation of these educated individuals is equally important. “Caste system is prevalent even today. I am not saying it’s wrong, but there has to be equality. That can come when educated individuals step in,” he said. The minister gave away cash prizes to 16 outstanding students from the community. Ashok also felicitated Dr M Ramaiah, former advisor, K C General Hospital, H Veerappa, former Deputy Commissioner, Dept of Commercial Tax and Shakuntala Chougle, former MLA. The Jasma Devi Hall is the initiative of S Raghu, chairman of Karnataka Bhovi Welfare Association. Also present on the occasion were former higher education minister Arvind Limbavali and MLA P C Mohan.
