HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Thursday directed the management of Ravindra Bharathi Public School in Vijayawada to pay Rs 3 lakh each as compensation to the parents of six deceased students who had drowned in a river during a picnic in November 2005.The private school had organised a picnic programme for its students and took them to a garden situated near Munneru river in Ithavaram village in Krishna district on November 27, 2005.However, 15 of the students drowned in the river while palying volley ball in the river and died.The APSHRC took up the matter suo motu and on enquiry found the school authorities were at fault ordered to pay a compensation of Rs 3 lakh each to the victims’ families. The SHRC members in an order directed the Krishna district collector, district education officer and regional joint director of school education to ensure the compensation is paid by the RBPS in a month from the date of order.
