Congress-backed candidates won the posts of Chairman and Vice Chairman of Shimla Zila Parishad on Saturday.
Shimla: Ruling Congress-backed candidates on Saturday won both the posts of Chairman and Vice Chairman of Shimla Zila Parishad.
The post of Chairperson, reserved for woman belonging to scheduled caste, was won by Dharmila Harnot who polled 16 votes against her lone rival Rekha Mokta who got five votes.
Surendra Rekta polled 13 votes to stake claim for the post
Vice Chairman against eight votes won by Liak Ram. As many as 21 out of 23 elected Zila Parishad members took part in the election.
The newly elected officials of the Zila Parishad were administered oath of office by Deputy Commissioner Dinesh Malhotra, who is also the Returning Officer of the election.
The election was held through ballot, Malhotra said.
