KOZHIKODE: Will the state government and the police show the guts to unmask the real conspirators behind the murder of RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan? Though Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan reiterate that the real conspirators behind the incident would be brought to justice, a close look at the history of political killings in the state shows that the real conspirators were never exposed.Often, the investigation was stopped once the goons directly involved in the murders were nabbed.Be it in the case of the gruesome murder of K T Jayakrishnan Master in the late 1990s or the recent execution of Indian Union Muslim League activist Abdul Shukoor, neither the government nor the police showed any interest in unravelling the real faces behind the plot.“Why are we not thinking of investigating the conspiracy? The state government should show the will to expose the real criminals behind the attack.Only then the public could understand the situation, realise the real face of political leaders and react accordingly.That’s what is required to stop political killings,” says political observer N M Pearson.Subhash Babu, former Superintendent of Police, blames the lethargic attitude of the police that prevents the probe from venturing into the wider conspiracy behind the killings.“Through persistent and continuous questioning using scientific methods, police can unravel the plot.For this, the investigating officers should have a special interest or a feeling of responsibility.However, nobody is ready to take that risk.Often, the probe stops with the ‘arranged arrest’ of the accused,” he said.According to him, the motive to kill someone would develop only with a previous enmity.“The next step would be the final decision to do away with the person.The preparation and annihilation would follow.However, police probe never points the finger at the actual beneficiaries,” he said.DGP Jacob Punnoose put the onus on the media for the police inability to arrest the real conspirators behind political killings.“To nab the actual plotters behind the murders, a systematic, slow and painstaking inquiry is inevitable.Unfortunately, the media outcry blaming the police for not immediately arresting the accused only affects the investigation,” he said.
