KOCHI: Speaker G Karthikeytan has said that doctors should try to carry the spirit of love and mercy. Inaugurating the convocation ceremony of the 2006 batch of BDS students of Amrita Dental College here on Tuesday, he urged the doctors to assimilate the message of love and charity.“We are living in a society which consists of people who say that they don’t know who Anna Hazare is. So, it is very important to recognise the high values in life,” he said.The 2006 batch which has passed out now comprises 60 students. The Dental College started in 2003 has a total of 240 students in various courses, College principal Narayanan Unni said. Post-graduate courses in seven streams have already been started. The sanction for two more PG courses is pending with the Dental Council of India, Narayanan Unni said. The college offers diploma course in Dental Mechanic also. The college has got A+ accreditation from NAAC, he said. The college is into community service as well. The state-of-the-art mobile dental unit is used for offering community dental services. “The mobile unit is helpful in offering services to the inmates of old-age homes and homes for destitutes and students,” he said. Mata Amritanandamayi Mutt general secretary Swamy Poornamritananda Puri delivered the benedictory speech. Amrita Institiute of Medical Science medical director Dr Prem Nair, Amrita Viswavidyapeetam registrar Dr S Krishnamurthy, Amrita Centre for Nano Sciences Dean Dr V Santhakumar, Amrita School of Arts director U Krishnakumar and Dental College vice-principal Balagopal Varma spoke on the occasion.
