A junior engineer was suspended, while three others, including a zonal officer and an executive engineer, were charged with dereliction of duty, following irregularities in their survey report of illegal constructions in Anna Nagar Shanthi Colony.
The survey report had serious flaws and several pieces of suppressed information, according to a communication from the Corporation. Corporation Commissioner D Karthikeyan said that the junior engineer of Ward 8, R Devaraj, had been suspended, while M Parasuraman, Zonal Officer, J Kannan, Executive Engineer, and T Enian, Assistant Executive Engineer, have been charged. “The CMDA had conducted a parallel survey of the same area and it was found that there were irregularities in the Corporation’s report on comparison,” he said.
A total of 17 buildings were surveyed by the Corporation apart from the ones that were already sealed earlier. CMDA officials said that there were problems in the Corporation’s version of figures on floor space indices, building categorisations and several other setback violations. “We submitted the report to the Corporation,” said CMDA officials.
