Vellore Corporation has intensified the preventive measures to combat dengue fever following the suspected death of a 12-year-old girl in Saidapet, here.
These measures were being carried out in the past and now additional members have been roped in, city health officer C R Priyamvatha said. She said, presently, around 115 staff were involved in the drive to distribute temephos, a chemical that is mixed in water tanks and household containers to control mosquito breeding.
Eight small fogging machines were being used for fogging streets. Steps were being taken to clear garbage and desilt drains, she added.
Vellore District Collector P Sankar flagged off a dengue awareness rally in Ambur on Thursday.
Ambur MLA Aslam Basha, Municipal Chairperson Sangeetha Balasubramani and Deputy Director for Health Services Dr Somasundharam participated.
The Collector said Ambur was found to be toping the list of towns where mosquitoes breed. He said the public should ensure cleanliness in order to avoid mosquito breeding. He also inspected the houses in Krishnapuram Kamarajar Road, during the rally.
