VADAKKENCHERY: A heavy blast occurred at a tiled house, where explosives and crackers were stored illegally, at Kaarapottayil, Kannampra on Sunday. The house was destroyed in the incident.About ten buildings adjacent to the house, including the CPM office, was damaged partially in the impact of the blast.However, there were no casualties. The local people said that usually there used to be people in the Karapotta centre but there were none at the time of the incident. The headload workers in the CPM office had also gone out for lunch at 1 pm.The house is owned by Ammini Krishnan, a cracker manufacturer and there was no one there at the time of the blast. While the crackers stored house was destroyed, the asbestos roofing of the adjacent CPM office was blown away and the glasspanes broken. Six glasspanes of a nearby house were broken and a tea shop was also damaged in the blast.The tiles of the cracker house were thrown around 100 metres away. A jeep parked in the vicinity was partially damaged. The police said the crackers were intended to be used for the Sreekrishna Jayanti celebrations.A police team headed by CI K G Suresh of the Vadakkencherry police station reached the spot and took stock of the situation.The house owner Ammini Krishnan was arrested.
