New Delhi: The Delhi government on Wednesday came out in the open against the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report that blames it for wasteful expenditure worth Rs 130 crore in CWG projects.
Though Chief Minister Shiela Dixit herself did not react to the charges, the Chief Secretary on Wednesday gave a point by point rebuttal.
The Shiela Dixit government on Tuesday found itself dragged into the Commonwealth Games mess with the CAG report noting serious lapses and irregularities in the bidding process.
The report said that the Delhi government gave IL&FS contracts to clear debris near CWG projects without inviting bids. Sheila Dixit's relatives work in the company, which had got the contract.
The CAG also questioned why project value of IL&FS was increased to Rs 75 lakh from Rs 42 lakh.
The Delhi government even didn't opt for competitive bidding for road signages in the capital causing a loss of Rs 14 crore, said the CAG report.
The six projects implemented by the PWD, working under the Delhi government are also under direct scrutiny of the CAG. The PWD is headed by Shiela loyalist Raj Kumar Chauhan.
The Delhi government on Wednesday responded to some of the charges in the CAG report that blames it for wasteful expenditure worth Rs 130 crore in CWG projects.
Delhi Chief Secretary PK Tripathi denied charges that Chief Minister Shiela Dixit favoured a firm Space Age, which was earlier disqualified from bidding.
"It was on factual grounds that Space Age was recommended by the Engineer in Chief. This company was rejected later by work advisory board which also comes under the Chief Minister. Had she wanted she would have got it cleared from there. The company went to court and it was through court order that we were directed to include it," said PK Tripathi.
Chief Minister Sheila Dixit has told CNN-IBN that she won't comment on the CAG report on the Commonwealth Games, till its tabled in Parliament.
"Till the time the report is tabled in Parliament, I will not comment," said Sheila Dixit.
However, the Chief Minister, talking to PTI, said, "We have not done anything wrong. Everything was done keeping in mind the national interest and prestige. We were entrusted with certain responsibilities and we delivered them."
