CUTTACK: City police nabbed a gang of notorious criminals involved in dacoity, extortion and tender fixing in the small hours of Tuesday and recovered arms and ammunition from them. The gang of four __ Mantu alias Banaj Dehury (30) of Jobra, Prakash Rout (22) and Ranjan Satpathy (25) of Shankarpur and Tulu Dubey (23) of Sikharpur __ was apprehended while allegedly scheming a dacoity in Chauliaganj area late on Monday. The four had assembled at an isolated place at Nehrupalli area and were plotting the crime when police swooped on them. Besieged, they gave themselves up. A Mauser and three live bullets were recovered from them. According to the police, Mantu, the leader of the gang, was wanted in more than 11 cases of dacoity, robbery, extortion and tender-fixing related crimes. He was on the run for the last five years. But he used to commit crimes and flee the City instantly. He had reportedly come back to the City only a week back. The police had been tipped off about his presence and tracking him since. Mantu and his gang members were allegedly behind the bomb attack on the house of a contractor at Sikharpur Nadikula Sahi during the Durga Puja festival last year. The incident was related to tender-fixing.
