BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) seems to be bent on continuing to beat their drums in order to make people pay up their property taxes as another case of the drum beat bug has now brought under its confines, Whitefield.A case was reported in Mangala Industrial Layout where a man, Umiya, hadn’t paid his taxes since 2007, making it accumulate to Rs. 51 lakh due to the negligence. In the same building, 13 separate khatas were held under the same name. Several BBMP complaints went ignored and so did the notices. When the BBMP turned up with a few drum-beaters at his doorstep, he shouldn’t have been surprised. However, the man was absconding after requesting the BBMP for some more time. While the Palike expected him to soon pay off his dues, he chose to run away instead. This left people wondering to what extent will the BBMP’s drum beating work. The authorities concerned had previously undertaken the same in several other areas in Bangalore such as Bannerghatta Road and Indiranagar. The drumbeating, a brainchild of the commissioner, H Siddaiah, has just started say the officials. Eranna, the officer responsible for the area, said, “This is the just the start. It will continue until people pay up their taxes on time.”The building in question is the Umiya Sunset, 58 Sagar. The BBMP beat their drums in front of the house showing time and time again that they intended to continue their fight in this ‘innovative’ way.
