HYDERABAD: Congress leaders from Telangana and Seemandhra regions have welcomed the deletion of Clause 14(f) from the Presidential Order of 1975 for inclusion of the state capital in Zone-VI, while Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal expressed doubt over its legal validity.“There is scope for somebody challenging Friday’s presidential order in a court of law since only Parliament had the authority to delete the clause by amending the Constitution. In fact, the clause is not at all related to the Andhra and Telangana problem nor to the SI recruitment test but to the issue of zones,’’ the MP said. But other leaders hailed the deletion of the clause though they differed on conducting the written test for recruitment of SIs scheduled to take place on Aug 13 and 14.Talking to newsmen at Gandhi Bhavan here on Friday, PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana thanked President Pratibha Singh Patil, prime minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Union home minister P Chidambaram for deletion of the clause. There would be no problem in conducting the SI test now, he hoped. Telangana Congress steering committee spokesman Gandra Venkataramana Reddy said there was no need to postpone the examination since the candidates were prepared for it. Those who were demanding its postponement should rethink keeping the interests of unemployed in mind. Kiran Kumar Reddy should write another letter to the Centre seeking state’s bifurcation.MP Ponnam Prabhakar urged the government to postpone the SI test in Zone-VI by a month. “In case the government conducts the test in the other five zones, results should not be declared till the completion of the test in Zone-VI to avert the problem of seniority.’’
