New Delhi: Eight persons have been arrested in connection with a case of murder of a 24-year-old man over a monetary issue, near Qutub Minar in south Delhi, police said. The arrested have been identified as Neeraj (31), Arvind Kumar (30), Karanjit (27), Ravinder Pawar (24), Kamal (30), Jagmohal Sagar (30), Dhrup (28) and Kartik (30).
On March 9, one Sonu Sejwal who worked in a five-star hotel in central Delhi was shot dead by some persons, while his friend Sandeep who was injured in the attack, is now fighting for his life at a city's hospital.
Both of them lived nearby Lado Sarai area. Neeraj, the alleged mastermind behind the incident, had some monetary issue with Narendra, a friend of Sonu. According to police, different teams, including an STF, were formed to crack the case and several raids were conducted in Himachal, Punjab, UP including Aligarh, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, Hardwar, and Shimla and Ajmer.
The teams also raided various hideouts in the national capital and questioned around 50 suspected persons who divulged important information about the criminals who took part in the crime, vehicles and weapons used in it and established motive of the crime.
"All accused were arrested after different raids were conducted in Aligarh, Madangir and managed to arrested eight persons involved in the shoot out. Police have recovered two SUVs, one automatic pistol used in the crime, eigh mobiles and 8 rounds and magazine from their possession," a senior police official said.
"In order to settle this dispute permanently, he alongwith two three other persons reached a dhaba near Lado Saria Tea Point around 11 AM on March 11 where Narender, Ashok, Sandeep and Sonu met him. Narender threatened Neeraj of dire consequences if he did not return his money," the official also said.
Neeraj, thereafter called his other associates to counter the threat given by Narender and they all gathered near Lado Sarai park and arranged weapons and vehicles. "Neeraj and Rohit opened fire at the opponent group who had threatened him earlier in the day and they all escaped from the spot," he said, adding that further investigation is on.
