HYDERABAD: It was raining fashion at N Convention centre when renowned designers took the stage with their collection, portraying different facets of fashion. Be it the flower children of the 70s and their transformation into the 80s retro chic brigade or the line of beautiful Indian silhouettes, also present was the hot, fluid,and sensual lounge wear followed by a blend of feline beauty. Day one of the show saw four designers — Asmita Marwa, Neeta Lulla, Wendell Rodricks and Gavin Miguel presenting their creations. The highlights of the show were Actress Tamannah, Sarah Jane and cricketer Shaun Tait. Alison Kanuga choreographed the sequences and Ambika Pillai took over the make-up of the models. Romantic InterludeNeeta Lulla’s Romantic Interlude was a beautiful collection of Indian silhouettes with western forms. Ensembles adorned with French laces and cut work on drapy chiffons and nets giving it a true romantic feel. The amalgamation of these ensembles with bright hues like peaches, pinks and yellows made it truly appealing to the eyes. Talking about the show in Hyderbad, she says, “It is always a pleasure to come to Hyderabad. It’s home for me. I am a St Ann’s student. And about the fashion market here, I think there has been a drastic change. People are more aware of fashion trends now. It will definitely be one of the fore-runner in a while.” When asked about the one person she would want to design for, she says, “I think I would want to go forty years back and design for Madhubala. I think, she is the most gorgeous lady India has ever had.” Tollywood hottie, Tamannah was the show stopper adorned in a red off-shoulder outfit from her collection.Sorbet splash collectionWendell Rodricks, a Goa-based designer is also known as the guru of minimalism, as he pioneered resort wear and eco-friendly fashion even before the terms were coined. His collection at was the sorbet splash collection, which consisted mainly of lounge wear. Talking on the idea of his collection, he says, “One day, sitting by a pool side, I saw a waiter carrying cocktails on a tray. The colours impressed me so much, that I thought I should bring them into my designs.” Blended into a feni cocktail were lime green, chilli tomato hot fuchsia, white, black iron ore to create a festive emotion. Hot, fluid and body hugging, collection was his shimmery tribute to a stunning festive season. Former Australian cricketer Shaun Tait was Wendell’s show stopper, who rendered a perfect finale. He also says, “I would love to give Jayalalitha and Mayawati a makeover.”MetamorphosisA renowned Hyderabadi designer Asmita Marwa presented Asmita Metamorphosis, a complete change of form and structure, as its transformation by magic. Flower children of the 70s transformed into the retro chic brigade of the 80s. Talking about her collection, Asmita says, “This process of transformation of the carefree spirit of the 70s evolved into the electrifying glamour of the 80s and 90s. So, here is my interpretation of metamorphosis.” On Hyderabad as an emerging fashion hub, she says, “It is great to be presenting my show here. I am a Hyderabadi, and to be doing this in my hometown is really special. I feel great for having been accepted by the industry.” Power from withinThe show starter for Hyderabad’s BPFT featured actress Sarah Jane who showcased Gavin Miguel’s latest collection “Power from within”. The collection spoke volumes about feline beauty with an edgy twist of asymmetric drama. From the silhouettes to the colour palette, everything is dark. The colour palette experiments with findings of the earth like gold, petroleum, metals and water. Talking about his collection, Gavin says, “The reason behind this collection is a constant search for something precious to belong to, and so, one keeps digging deep, be it mind, soul or place. One, would find their dream, I did.”
