DMDK chief condemns attacks, seeks repoll

CHENNAI: DMDK leader Vijayakant on Monday strongly condemned an attack on his partymen and demanded a repoll in certain wards where irregularities allegedly took place.M Velmurugan, the candidate for ward 35 in Perambur and his brothers, Prabhu and Saravanan, were attacked by members of the ruling party, he alleged.  In another attack, Rajkumar, a DMDK worker who worked as a booth agent for the party’s candidate in ward 107 (Egmore), sustained head injuries, Vijayakant said.In ward 101, when AIADMK members tried to attack Ramesh, a DMDK functionary, the police who were present, acted in their support and assaulted him, he said. “Action must be taken against those responsible,” the DMDK leader said. He said the attacks disproved the SEC’s claims that sufficient security was in place.CPM State Secretary G Ramakrishnan also sought action against the AIADMK men involved in the attack on the DMDK’s candidate.He also called for a re-poll in certain polling stations.Meanwhile, PMK leader Dr S Ramadoss demanded a re-poll for the whole of the city corporation. “If this is not done, the PMK will approach the HC,” he warned.
