The DMK’s first public meeting in the city to mobilise support for the resolutions adopted at the TESO conference turned out to be damp squib as the speakers did not show any interest or conviction in the subject, disappointing the sparse crowd which had gathered.
Although the meeting, held on Wednesday, was titled as one explaining the resolutions of the TESO meet, the main speaker, ex-minister S Muthusamy, deliberately shied away from the topic, with a prior announcement. Even at the beginning of his speech, he said he would be speaking on other subjects, before touching upon the TESO resolutions.
A major portion of his speech was devoted to price rise, power crisis and his past experience as transport minister in the cabinet of AIADMK founder MGR.
A few minutes before ending his speech, he read out the resolutions, without explaining their significance or necessity. He only stressed on unity among all the major parties on important issues of the State. Though, most of the speakers referred to the allegations of MDMK leader Vaiko, World Tamil Forum leader P Nedumaran and Naam Thamizhar P Seeman, none of them dared to go into the charges and come out with answers.
They focused only on the DMK’s agitations when it was the Opposing MGR.
