In the summer season, doctors recommend consuming cooling drinks. The weather in Telangana is harsh with immense heat and humidity. According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Manchippa in Nizamabad recorded the highest temperature at 42.2 degrees Celsius, followed by Talamadugu and Chaprala in Adilabad at 42.1 and 42 degrees Celsius respectively.
To beat this heat, a soothing drink in the Nalgonda district is gaining prominence. The Parhat Bakhsh Lassi started with a quarter-litre bottle in 1981. Today, it is priced at Rs 50 in Nalgonda district. The special thing here is that they are famous for making their own yoghurt and ice cream.
Janimia is the founder of the Parhat Bakhsh Lassi, which was started in 1981 in the old city of Hyderabad. The vendor came to the Nalgonda district because he could not find a suitable place anywhere.
“We started with small pieces then and have grown little by little over the years. The current rate is Rs 50 because a litre of milk costs Rs 80 and if you add 12 litres of milk, it becomes 10 litres. Back then, the cost of milk was lower than it is today”, Janimia said. The shop is open for only three to four months in every summer season.
“We are open from 10 am to 7 pm every day. At other times, we wash them dry. Starting from curd, even ice cream is made by anyone. Even the yoghurt is churned in a pan,” Janimia added.
All the customers come from Nalgonda district as well as Suryapet, Miryalaguda and Hyderabad districts to drink lassi. Drinking lassi cools the body and also gives energy. The vendor also said that senior officials, from workers to the upper class, would come to drink this lassi. Every customer who comes here keeps coming back.
