Mumbai: The two doctors, who were terminated from service after having spoken to the media about the shabby treatment they received as part of the team that was looking after President APJ Abdul Kalam in Mumbai in September, have sent a legal notice to the JJ Hospital.
Dr Sameer Kalaniya and Dr Ravi Ghugre have demanded that they be reinstated immediately, failing which they would approach the Maharashtra administrative tribunal for redressal.
The doctors were fired without being given any prior notice because they had told the media that they were kept hungry and thirsty for a whole day while following President APJ Abdul Kalam's convoy in Mumbai.
Their lawyer, Nusrat Shah, said, "They cannot be fired without being heard and without following due process. There should be a charge sheet and a domestic enquiry against those who are responsible for this."
Meanwhile, JJ Hospital administration maintains that the matter has been blown out of proportion.
The administration has stated that the order has nothing to do with the Presidential visit and the doctors were released from duty since they were temporary employees.
JJ Hospital Dean, Dr Pravin Shingare said, "We have neither terminated nor suspended them two. Their term with the hospital had come to an end and so they were asked to leave."
The doctors counter this argument by saying that their termination order clearly mentions that they were sacked following an enquiry by the local police.
"Our termination orders clearly state that after the President's visit an enquiry was set up, in which I was found guilty of negligence of duty and that is why I have been sacked," said Dr Kalaniya.
JJ Hospital has been given seven days to respond to the legal notice. The doctors have said that if they were not reinstated within this period, they would approach the Maharastra Adminsitrative tribunal for justice.
