New Delhi: It is a tradition on Independence Day to fly kites, but it has proved dangerous for the birds. Dozens of birds were injured this Independece day in the national capital after getting caught and even cut by kite strings.
The bird hospital in Old Delhi admitted at least 250 birds with injuries, some even proved to be fatal.
Khemraj Singh, Supervisor at Bird Hospital in Lal Mandir, said, "Sometimes it takes over five days for the bird to recover, sometimes a month. It depends on their illness. We release them after they recover."
Bird lovers have appealed for caution to avoid such incidents in the future.
