DTC staff to double as bomb squad
Special training is being given to the DTC staff so that they can detect explosives and identify suspicious passengers.

New Delhi: The Delhi government is starting a special training programme for the staff of state-run Delhi Transport Corporation to sensitise them on detection of explosives and suspicious passengers.

Transport Minister Haroon Yusuf said on Thursday that the programme involves educating the drivers and conductors on the precautionary measures that need to be taken to prevent bomb explosions in buses.

Nearly 30,000 drivers and conductors will be trained in this programme, he added.

Two years ago, the transport department had conducted a similar programme, when there was a blast incident in a DTC bus near Indian Institute of Technology.

Last time, the training was limited to few instructions on safety measures. But this time some mock drills may be conducted to ensure that the staff remains alert.
