KOCHI: The Durbar Hall Kalakendram of Kerala Lalithakala Akademi was dedicated to the nation on Sunday. Speaking after inaugurating the Kalakendram, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the renovated Durbar Hall would be a cultural hub for the artists. “If we are dedicated, we could bring in innovations,” he said. The gallery is set to be a landmark in the state’s history of painting and sculpture. Tourism Minister A P Anilkumar said the Durbar Hall would contribute to the development of art in the state. Excise Minister K Babu, MLAs Hibi Eden, Dominic Presentation, Benny Behanan and Laithakala Akademi chairman K A Francis were among those present. The Durbar Hall has been renovated by the Kochi Biennale Foundation at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore. The art gallery has used the state-of-the-art lighting technology. The gallery has been divided into six parts to increase the number of exhibitions staged at the venue.
