EC's actions to remove officials has led to a debate: Vijayawargiya
The Election Commission's decision to remove officials from the areas of powerful Congress leaders has led to a debate among people, Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijaywargiya said in Indore on Tuesday.

The Election Commission's decision to remove officials from the areas of powerful Congress leaders has led to a debate among people, Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijaywargiya said in Indore on Tuesday.

"Officers posted in the areas of Kamal Nath, Jyotiraditya Scindia and former minister Kantilal Bhuria are being removed and the Election Commission is posting officials of their choice in those areas," Vijawargiya told reporters.

Vijaywargiya clarified that this is not his personal opinion but such talk is doing rounds in the city.

He said that the Election Commission's job is to conduct free and fair elections, but if it engages in appeasing senior leaders, its impartiality would be in doubt.

Vijawargiya also criticised Congress president Sonia Gandhi for meeting Jama Masjid's Shahi Imam, Syed Ahmad Bukhari, after which the latter issued an appeal to vote for the Congress, saying that this amounts to violation of the model code of conduct.

He said that he expected the Commission to act on the Bukhari issue, but so far, it had not done so.

On the issue of the "revenge" remark made by BJP general secretary Amit Shah in Uttar Pradesh, Vijaywargiya defended him saying that the remark was made to appeal to voters, against those involved in corruption.

However, if the Commission though that it was a violation of the model code of conduct then it should take action against him, he said.

What's your reaction?
