New Delhi: The Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will take the final call on auction of spectrum and telecom licence-related issues, Telecom Secretary R Chandrashekhar said.
"(EGoM's) terms of reference has been extended to include spectrum allocation and licence related issues... V Narayanasamy (Minister of State in PMO) is also now part of this group," he told.
The EGoM is looking into vacation of spectrum. He further said that Department of Telecommunications is looking into the Trai's recommendation on 'Auction of
Spectrum'.
"We will get back to Trai in case we have some a different view and if some clarifications are required," he said, adding that "the final decision will be taken by EGoM".
Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Defence Minister AK Antony, Home Minister P Chidambaram, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni, Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal, Law Minister Salman Khursheed and Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia are members of EGoM.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Monday recommended based price of Rs 3,622 crore for a megahertz of spectrum at pan-India level which is around 10 times high base or minimum price for spectrum that was allocated for 2G service in 2008 by then telecom minister A Raja.
