MANGALORE: In a significant development, the Supreme Court allowed an intervention application in a case filed by Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) seeking a countrywide permanent ban on Endosulfan.
The apex court's division bench recently rejected the request for an eightweek extension, and had directed its joint committee, headed by Director General of ICMR and Commissioner (Agriculture), to submit the interim report on Endosulfan within three weeks. In the application, Navdanya (a network of organic farmers headed by Dr Vandana Shiva) and human rights activist Dr Ravindranath Shanbhag, acting on behalf of the helpless victims, reveal their fears that the Centre is a puppet in the hands of Endosulfan lobbyists.
