The much-deserved appreciation comes as the Mumbai Police personnel faced some anxious moments as there was a stampede-like situation at several places along the route of the victory parade of the T-20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team through South Mumbai.
As crowds pressed around the bus carrying the victorious cricket team from the NCPA to Wankhede stadium, there was a stampede-like situation at some points but police averted it.
Notably, about a dozen children went missing in the crowd but they were reunited with their parents, while four to five persons were admitted to hospital after they fainted or took ill otherwise, officials said.
A video broadcast by a local news channel, showed a policeman trying to carry a girl who had fainted on his shoulder, but struggling to push his way out in the throng.
Mumbai Police Issued Traffic Advisory
As thousands of cricket fans gathered in south Mumbai to watch the Indian T20 cricket team’s victory promenade, the Mumbai police issued an advisory asking commuters to avoid heading towards Marine Drive and nearby areas.
According to X users and locals, the traffic in and around Marine Drive came to a standstill on a busy road in south Mumbai as a crowd of fans gathered to welcome the victorious Indian cricket team.
Heavy Deployment Of Police Across South Mumbai
There was a heavy deployment of police personnel who made elaborate security arrangements between Marine Drive and Wankhede Stadium to avoid any untoward incident, said an official.
More than 400 Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police personnel were deployed for crowd management at Churchgate station but no untoward incident was reported, said a senior RPF official.
The victory parade started near NCPA, at the southern tip of Marine Drive, around 7. 45 p.m. As the bus inched towards Wankhede Stadium, it was escorted by hundreds of police personnel.
