Excess Rainwater Released From Kaddam Narayana Reddy Reservoir Due To Flood Warning
The release was carried out after authorities performed a puja in the name of Goddess Katta Maisamma.

A reservoir in the state of Telangana, which is a part of the Kaddam Narayana Reddy project, is reported to be in danger of being flooded. As per the reports of Local18, the locals of the area, mainly farmers, performed a puja seeking divine help to let the flooding risk come down. According to the information given, the decades old project, which is located in the Kaddam mandal centre of the Nirmal district, was installed with 700 feet for water level. Due to the heavy rains in the area, the water was reported to have flooded the upper region of the reservoir. It had reportedly crossed 691 feet of the level, raising concerns among the locals living in the area.

To contain the water levels in the reservoir, the authorities have released the flood water downstream. Reports state further that in 2022 and 2023, the reservoir’s flood gates were damaged badly due to the floods. It left the whole installation in a dangerous situation. So, the continuous rains in the area were causing the water levels to gradually increase.

The excess flood water was released into the ayacut, where the monsoon crops were planted, to not overburden the reservoir. The water was released through right and left canals of the installation. The process was carried out by the Khanapur MLA Vedma Bhojju, who released the water after performing a puja to Goddess Katta Maisamma, for making the situation better.

The water release decision is being deemed satisfactory by the farmers, reports Local18. According to them, the situation is way better than the past. As per the information, some farmers had planted the paddy crops because of the water release. Now, they are filled with hope that the released water will prove to be good for the planted crops. The MLA assured the farmers that plentiful water will be provided for the irrigation.
