New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences on with a chest infection.
Doctors said the condition of the 84-year-old BJP stalwart is stable.
Vajpayee was brought to the AIIMS at 2200 hrs (IST) after he complained of fever. He was then taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), D K Sharma, Superintendent of AIIMS, said.
Sharma said Vajpayee was suffering from chest infection but his condition is stable.
The Hospital will be conducting further tests.
Dr Randeep Guleria, Vajpayee's personal physician, was conducting echo-respiratory tests on the former premier.
BJP president Rajnath Singh rushed to the hospital upon hearing the news.
Guleria said doctors will soon decide on whether Vajpayee’s should be at AIIMS for some days or be at home.
Owing to ill health, Vajpayee has been making fewer public appearances in the last couple of years.
BJP leader L K Advani, a close associate of Vajpayee for several decades, spoke to the former premier's family members from Bangalore and inquired about his condition.
