THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has decided to convene an all-party meet to discuss the Thiruvananthapuram-Kasargod high-speed rail corridor after getting the detailed project report. A presentation based on the feasibility study of the first phase of the project was made by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation chairman E Sreedharan before the Chief Minister and other top officials. The feasibility report earmarked the estimated cost of the project at Rs 43,254 crore for the high-speed corridor from Thiruvananthapuram to Kochi. The project that is scheduled to begin in 2013 will be completed by 2020. The maximum speed will be of 350 km/hr which will enable a passenger to reach Kochi from Thiruvananthapuram in 45 minutes. The maximum number of passengers will be 817 and would have nine stations between Thiruvananthapuram to Mangalapuram, said the report. The total cost of the entire project is estimated to be Rs 1,18,050 crore. The project is planned in a PPP model. The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, was also attended by Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty, Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammed, Ports Minister K Babu and Planning Board vice-chairman K M Chandrasekhar, among others.
