HYDERABAD: With seven national awards under his belt, Sreekar Prasad is probably one of the best film editors India has.He has edited movies in more than 13 languages and his latest national award for editing was for the movie Firaaq, directed by Nandita Das.He has worked on many popular Telugu movies like Yuva, Raavan, Athadu, Okkadu and Sakhi and he is in the city as a part of the jury for the Indian competition category for the ongoing International Children's Film Festival.Children's filmsExpressing his view on children's films, he says, “Films should be made in a way children will relate to them.These days there are a lot of movies that are coming up with such different subjects which do tend to influence children a lot.” He further adds, “It is important to make films for them, which are fun, light and also are informative and entertaining.There is always a huge difference between children's movies and movies based on children.” Taking the example of Taare Zameen Par, Sreekar says, Taare Zameen Par was a movie about a child and the story revolved around teaching parents about better treatment of children and to understand their children.The message chosen was great and was portrayed in a manner that it was more appealing to people.” Increase in the market for children’s filmsComparing the last film festival and the one held this year, Sreekar says, “There are more entries this year as compared to the past one year.There have been more children films in Indian cinema which have reached out to more audience across the globe.Suddenly there seems to be more market for children's films, which was not the case earlier.” He further adds, “Now we have a lot of multiplexes which are definitely catering to the increasing cinema needs.So, I think children films are being treated the way they should.”Making Indian animated moviesTalking about the Indian animation industry, Sreekar opines, “The problems with animation movies in the country is that we have not yet reached upto the mark of Hollywood.There is loads of competition when compared to the movies like that of Ice Age, Kung Fu Panda and stuff like that.” “As far as the technology is concerned, we are definitely inadequate.It's a definitely a very big industry and we are mid-way through it and if worked upon, can definitely do a lot of great work,” he signs off.
