HYDERABAD: The first pillar of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project will be laid next week near Survey of India, Uppal, on corridor-III (from Nagloe to Shilparamam). The Larsen and Toubro Hyderabad Metro Rail (L&THMR) staff have begun the base reinforcement works with steel and other material for constructing the pillar (pier). More than 90 percent of Right of Way (RoW) is available in the Nagole-Shilparamam (27.51 Km; 23 stations) corridor. The 8-km stretch from Nagole to Mettuguda, which is part of the corridor-III, is scheduled to be the first stage to be completed. The elevated metro rail is being built across 71.16 km spread across three dense traffic corridors -- corridor-I  (Miyapur-LB Nagar 28.87 km; 27 stations),  corridor-II (JBS-Falaknuma 14.78 km; 16 stations) and corridor-III (Nagole-Shilparamam 27.51Km; 23 stations), in the city. The HMR authorities are confident of completing the works on all three corridors by 2016 at a cost of `14,182 crore.A total of 2,500 pillars (piers) and 28,000 pre-cast segments (forming flyover like viaduct) will come up in the three corridors. HMR officials said that the first pier would be 8-metre high and 1.8-metre wide. Electric poles and street light have been already shifted, so were major power lines of 11KV and 33 KV.
