THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: When he takes the oath of office as a member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly on Thursday, Anoop Jacob would have the rare honour of being the first third generation member as his maternal grandmother Pennamma Jacob represented Muvattupuzha in the House from 1970 to 77.He would also take the number of ‘sons’ in the current Assembly, who have followed their fathers to the House, to a dozen, while the number of second generation law makers in the 13th Assembly would equal its own number when Jameela Prakasam is added to the list. But the daughter of R Prakasam, first Attingal MLA, owes more to her husband Neelalohitha Das Nadar for the victory in his forte Kovalam.Almost all of these members represent constituencies once held by their fathers and all except Jameela, follow the same political lineage as their fathers . And if everything goes as promised, Anoop would increase the number to half a dozen in the Cabinet with P K Abdu Rabb, K P Mohanan, M K Muneer, Shibu Baby John and K B Ganesh Kumar as their fathers did, while two senior members, K Muraleedharan and M V Sreyams Kumar are waiting for their turn.He would share another first with K B Ganesh Kumar when he becomes the minister. Ganesh became a member of the A K Antony Ministry in 2001 in his first term as MLA from Pathanapuram which sent his father R Balakrishna Pillai to the second Assembly as the youngest member. The only ‘son’ in the Opposition is K Ajith of CPI, from Vaikom, which was represented by his father M K Keshavan in sixth, seventh, eighth and 11th Assemblies.
