Truck operators on Wednesday said that around five lakh goods vehicles would go off the roads on Thursday as part of the nationwide one-day strike called by the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) to protest the recent diesel price hike.
“We have been taking necessary steps to ensure that all the operators participate in the stir and vehicles are off the roads from Wednesday midnight to Thursday midnight,” State Federation of Lorry Owners Associations- Tamil Nadu (SFLOA-TN) president K Nallathampi told journalists here on Wednesday,
Nallathampi noted that business to the tune of nearly `120 crore would be affected in the State owing to the strike.
Nallathampi noted that an agreement had been reached to provide a 16 per cent hike in transportation charges to compensate the fuel cost.
The AIMTC would give a notice to the Centre on Friday, demanding roll back of the fuel price hike and may again resort to an indefinite strike within three week’s time if they didn’t receive any proper response from the authorities sooner or later, the SFLOA-TN president said.
