Srinagar: Militants struck at the busy business centre of Lal Chowk in the heart of Srinagar on Monday afternoon.
Militant group Al-Mansoorian has claimed responsibility for the attack.
A caller introducing himself as Abu Usama, spokesman of the outfit, told a local news agency that four fidayeen
(suicide squad) of the outfit were involved in the attack.
The militants threw grenades at the Lal Chowk gurdwara killing two CRPF men and two civilians while wounding 13 others, including a CRPF jawan.
After hurling the grenades, they started firing at the security jawans posted near the gurdwara and at Ghanta Ghar(Clock Tower).
The militants were holed up inside the Palladium cinema complex that also houses the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) company headquarters.
Senior police and security officers immediately rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area.
All business establishments and shops downed their shutters and the traffic also came to a standstill with people running for cover.
Police personnel feel that the main target was the CRPF company headquarters.
The total number of terrorists is yet to be ascertained.
