HYDERABAD: Four persons, including two from Maharastra, were nabbed on Wednesday for preparing fake cheques and discounting the same fraudulently. Police seized six fake cheques of ICICI and IDBI banks, fake authorisation letters of various companies and a twowheeler.
The two from Maharastra, Santosh Mahender Lal and Rayees Anis Shaik are part of Mumbaibased gangs which collect blank cheques through courier boys and lower rung staff of private companies by paying money. These gangs further form subgangs to cheat banks. "These gangs choose persons who are in financial problems and lure them with commission on discounting of fake cheques,' additional deputy commissioner of police (Task Force) K Raghuram Reddy said. They also lure account holders with commission to get the cheque deposited for discounting. "If the account holder accepts, they deposit the cheque and get it discounted,' the officer said adding that when the bank authorities send the cheques for realisation they are dishonoured as a fake one.
